April and October are great months to play golf in Scotland. The weather can be surprisingly sunny and combine this with the less congested fairways and significant cost savings. The 5 star itinerary below, which includes rounds on 3 Open Championship courses, highlights the huge savings on offer which are 40% less than the high season. The details are as follows :-

• Day 1 (Sun) – Arrive in Scotland where you will be warmly welcomed by a Drumgolf Representative who will assist with the collection of your rental vehicle. Travel to Ayrshire and stay at the Turnberry Resort x 2 nights.
• Day 2 (Mon) – Play the Ailsa Course
• Day 3 (Tues) –Travel to St Andrews and stay at the Fairmont Golf Resort & Spa, St Andrews x 4 nights.
• Day 4 (Wed) – Old Course Ballot*
• Day 5 (Thurs) – Play the Torrance Course
• Day 6 (Fri) – Play Carnoustie

Golf Course Selection

Turnberry - Scene of 3 Open Championships the most memorable being the great Watson v Nicklaus head to head in 1977 and venue for the 2009 Open Championship. The magnificent Ailsa course and sister Kintyre course offer breathtaking views over Turnberry Bay. Rated in the top 20 golf courses in the world, the courses are only available to hotel guests. Old Course, St. Andrews Ballot - It is essential for all keen golfers to make a pilgrimage to play this fine old links at least once in their life. To play the course you must possess handicap certification and a maximum handicap of 24 for Gents and 36 for Ladies. We have based your quotation on the Old Course Ballot. This is where we enter your names in a ballot (lottery) the day before you plan to play and you discover whether you have been successful by 4pm. Throughout the year over 50% of tee times are allocated in this way but there are no guarantees of success. If unlucky with the Ballot result there are numerous top class courses that we can arrange tee times at short notice in the vicinity to St Andrews. Any green fee savings would be refunded directly to the Golfers.

Torrance Course – Designed by Sam Torrance, this course has undergone extensive improvements in the last year and was a final qualifying course for the Open Championship in 2010. Set on a wonderfully panoramic coastal position, yet this is not a links course!

Carnoustie – Hosted an exciting Open Championship in 2007, but will probably be better remembered for 1999 when Jean Van De Velde came unstuck at the final hole forfeiting a 3 shot lead. The narrow fairways and high rough which that Championship was remembered for are now no longer such feature and Visitors can look forward to a beautifully conditioned course where accuracy is rewarded but poor course management exposed.
